Some dementia patients continue to respond to music long after they have become unresponsive to other stimuli. A new documentary, Alive Inside, examines this and will receive its debut this week in New York.

With the recent shooting in Tucson of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, there was a lot of discussion in how musical memory and talent is stored and expressed in the brain versus language and other areas, with respect to her slow and grueling recovery.. I can very easily see how this would be a different avenue for the person with dementia and their caregivers.
